This is a public art project created at The Fence, a prominent feature located at the heart of Carnegie Mellon University. This wooden fence has been painted over the years by generations of CMU students and associates, becoming an unofficial message board for the university community. Traditionally, The Fence is used to express political or social issues or to promote specific student groups through slogans or associated colors.
For this particular project, the artist takes a different approach. Rather than focusing on conveying a specific social or political message, the artist's goal is to create a visually engaging fence. Inspired by Camouflage, 1987, a self-portrait by CMU alumnus Andy Warhol, the fence is repainted using pink, purple, and orange acrylic paints. These colors shift the focus from traditional “meaningful” messages to light-hearted and aesthetic design.
